I have been a healthy kid my entire childhood. When I say healthy I mean overweight and chubby. During my school days, I was the biggest kid in my class. My friends would call me ‘Big Show’ and ‘Mark Henry’ but I would feel proud rather than feel bad. Why? My friends would bring me with them if they get into fights and brawls and surprisingly the other party would back out.
Fast forward to college days, when maturity was hitting the mark, I realized being big and overweight was nothing to feel proud of. Funnily enough, I thought I could pull off the Mountain’s look from GOT (remember the skull crushing scene?). I started having health issues, after ignoring them for some time I decided to make some lifestyle changes.
I decided to become lean and healthy and I was motivated by my inner voices. I was also driven by the josh and junoon of joining the Indian Armed Forces. I got the perfect opportunity to start my transformation journey during my second year of college when we got a vacation of 3 months.
I saw tons of video and spoke to my friends about weight loss plans. But none of their superficial suggestions managed to interest me. So, I dug into research about effective, easy to do, and result-oriented workout plans and came up with the perfect solution – Running!
I got the perfect opportunity to start my transformation journey during my second year of college when we got a vacation of 3 months.
Day 1 started with a lot of difficulty of fidgeting with the snooze button of my phone alarm and managing to wake up at 5 am in the morning. I got dressed and walked down to the start of my running route. I measured a route of 5K the night before and I made up my mind to finish the distance, but things didn’t go according to plan.
As I started running, I soon felt uneasy and breathless. My legs started hurting as they could not carry a load of 100+ kilos. I covered a distance of 200 odd meters and I sat down at the sidewalk to catch my breath. I started again and sat down after 500 meters. This ordeal was repeated about 10-15 time but I managed to complete the distance.
Coming back home all drenched in sweat and feeling the muscular pain, I realized that this journey would not be an easy one. But having completed the set distance of 5K, I got an immense amount of motivation from within.
I started eating healthy which meant cutting down on all my favorite junk food and adding nutrition to my diet. I was able to set a routine where I would eat on time and drink ample amount of water. Running 5K early in the morning and having a healthy diet every day actually worked!
A couple of months passed and I was doing 8K-10K daily. My stamina was at the peak and my body transformed into something that I had never seen before. I was literally burning more calories than I ate. I looked completely different and that motivated to go further and hustle harder.
Another 2 months passed and I reached my ideal weight. Let me remind you, I did not check my weight since I started the transformation journey. The only way I knew I was making progress was by looking at how I had to alter all my clothes and buy new ones. I’ll kid you not, a total of 11 inches were taken out from the waistline of my jeans. As shocking as it sounds, the amount of pride I felt was unmeasurable.
By the time I was completely transformed, I had lost almost half of what I used to weigh. I looked good, got more self-confidence, and felt proud of myself.
3 things that helped throughout my journey- Hard work | Determination | Willpower.
I was determined to put in the hard work which was backed up by the willpower to eat healthy to get the desired results.
As much as I love sharing my transformation story, I also keep saying that if I can, so can you. Change is the only constant and it is up to you to decide whether you want to be the change that you actually want to see.
If this story has motivated you in some way or the other, this post has served its purpose. Stay healthy and keep hustling.
